This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who require tailored emotional and behavioural support.

This is a full-time position with onboarding to be completed by the May half term, ready for a June start, and will run through to the end of the academic year, with a high potential to continue into September for the right candidate.

Pay Rate: £85 – £110 per day, depending on experience and qualifications.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to regulate emotions, engage in learning, and build trusting relationships within a structured and supportive setting. You’ll work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to ensure every student feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEMH in and out of the classroom
  • Use de-escalation strategies and emotional coaching to support behaviour
  • Build positive, consistent relationships with students based on trust and understanding
  • Assist in the development and delivery of personalised learning plans
  • Work closely with the SENCO, therapists, and other professionals
  • Encourage resilience, independence, and emotional literacy in pupils
  • Uphold safeguarding practices and contribute to a safe learning environment

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (essential)
  • A background in education, youth work, or therapeutic care (desirable)
  • Excellent emotional intelligence, patience, and empathy
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • Commitment to inclusive education and trauma-informed practice
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Perks & Benefits

  • Free Twinkl Ultimate subscription tailored for SEN and SEMH support
  • Full backing and training from the Elevate Supply team
  • A pathway into specialist roles or therapeutic education careers
  • A warm and supportive team dedicated to holistic student development
  • Opportunities for long-term roles or permanent contracts

Location: Based in South Sheffield, accessible from areas such as Meersbrook, Lowedges, and Heeley.
