SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH Focus – South Sheffield | Elevate Supply
Elevate Supply is proud to be working in partnership with a compassionate and inclusive specialist school in South Sheffield to recruit a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant with a strong focus on supporting students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who require tailored emotional and behavioural support.
This is a full-time position with onboarding to be completed by the May half term, ready for a June start, and will run through to the end of the academic year, with a high potential to continue into September for the right candidate.
Pay Rate: £85 – £110 per day, depending on experience and qualifications.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to regulate emotions, engage in learning, and build trusting relationships within a structured and supportive setting. You’ll work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to ensure every student feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.

Your Responsibilities
- Support students with SEMH in and out of the classroom
- Use de-escalation strategies and emotional coaching to support behaviour
- Build positive, consistent relationships with students based on trust and understanding
- Assist in the development and delivery of personalised learning plans
- Work closely with the SENCO, therapists, and other professionals
- Encourage resilience, independence, and emotional literacy in pupils
- Uphold safeguarding practices and contribute to a safe learning environment
- Experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs (essential)
- A background in education, youth work, or therapeutic care (desirable)
- Excellent emotional intelligence, patience, and empathy
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Commitment to inclusive education and trauma-informed practice
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
