Who are we?
Mount St. Mary’s College, along with Barlborough Hall School, is a special community with a proud history and an exciting future, with staff and pupils working together to achieve shared goals. Nestled in beautiful and spacious grounds in the North East Derbyshire village of Spinkhill, Mount St Mary’s College is an independent Jesuit day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 11-18. Barlborough Hall School, a co-educational independent day school and nursery for children aged three to 11, is located nearby in the magnificent private grounds of Barlborough Park which is tucked away in the quiet village of Barlborough, near Chesterfield in Derbyshire. The music department supports the ethos of a well-rounded education for pupils, ensuring creative talents are nurtured and traditions upheld. The staff community embodies a genuine commitment to the needs of the both the individual students and the school as a whole.
The Role
- To teach a range of brass instruments to pupils aged 5-18 across two different sites in one-to-one lessons.
- To work alongside the other visiting music staff in planning timetables.
- To contribute to ensembles and orchestras by mutual agreement with the Director of Music.
- To work as part of a team in planning repertoire for concerts and offering performing opportunities for pupils.
- To contribute to departmental discussions regarding repertoire and events.
- To assist the work of both music departments by dealing with administrative and other matters. This includes overseeing instrumental stock, liaising with the finance office, updating attendance registers and monitoring the music library.
- To assist in the scholarship audition process and prepare suitable candidates for auditions.
- To liaise with the Director of Music about all matters.
You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced musician keen to dedicate themselves to becoming part of a forward thinking and ambitious teaching team.
You will have an exceptional level of performance on one or more brass instruments,
along with the ability to lead ensembles. Ideally you will also have considerable experience of one to one brass teaching including preparing pupils for practical exams.
You will have excellent organisation and communication skills.
