Job description
The role will work closely with the Chief Medical Advisor and head of the DWP Clinical Profession to build and grow the 5500 strong clinical profession and influence the clinical profession development across government.
You will :
- Oversee the clinical profession function for DWP alongside the Chief Medical Advisor, covering meetings when required for them.
- Develop the clinical profession ‘continuing professional development’ programme alongside the Education Lead ensuring the annual conference and monthly clinician calls are organised with expert speakers from across the leaders within the NHS and Royal Colleges and Faculties.
- Link with HR to ensure that any clinician who is being investigated has contact with the head of profession and support in place during the investigation, signposting to the responsible officer and regulatory bodies when appropriate.
- Draft and deliver (including in-person) high quality advice for the Chief Medical Advisor and senior officials relating to the clinical profession in DWP and in the provider organisations.
- Work with clinicians directly employed by DWP and those who are based in the providers of disability/functional assessments, to ensure recruitment and retention of clinicians is aligned so that clinicians are able to deliver high standard, accurate, clinical and health related advice.
Person specification:
- 5 years of post-graduate expertise and up to date registration with NMC, GMC or HCPC, with no conditions on registration unless they relate solely to a disability.
- High level of clinical confidence, including a broad range of clinical experience, with experience of working in the NHS.
- Experience of involvement, development or leading CPD / education programmes for clinical teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex material into simple explanations.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to adapt, influence and solve problems at pace.
Successful candidates will be entitled to a generous Civil Service Pension Scheme (with employer contributions worth 27.9% – 30.3% of salary), indemnity insurance cover for their work within DWP, and professional regulatory body fees reimbursed.
