Risk Officer Job Description

Location: UK remote (options for office/hybrid working available)

Annual Salary: Starting salary £30,000 (Banding up to £38,000)

Contract: 12 months fixed term Recruiters: Ben Robinson & James Cook

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (core hours 10am-2pm Monday-Friday)

As it continues its fast-growth strategy, Twinkl is looking to appoint an experienced Risk Officer to help create and embed an enterprise risk management framework. Reporting to the Senior Strategy and Operations Manager, the Risk Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of risk management tools and processes, including the creation and maintenance of strategic and operational risk registers, oversight of agreed mitigations and close alignment with projects across the organisation to ensure timely and risk-aware delivery. We are looking for someone with prior experience in risk management or related fields (such as quality assurance, compliance, or audit), who is highly organised, communicates effectively, and has a proven track record in project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Senior Strategy and Operations Manager to drive the implementation of enterprise risk management, engaging with the business at all levels.
  • Build a risk-aware culture throughout Twinkl, including via a risk champion network or other agreed governance.
  • Play a key role in ensuring that business-critical projects are completed in a timely fashion by liaising with key stakeholders and project leads.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and implementation of our annual departmental risk review process.
  • Perform incident reviews challenging incident handling to drive learning and development of improved risk mitigation.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure on-time, within-scope delivery.
  • Provide regular status updates to the Risk Committee, key stakeholders and executive management, addressing project risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Support the Senior Strategy and Operations Manager in optimising system efficiencies and advancing the enterprise risk framework and departmental risk framework.

What You'll Have

  • Preferred experience in risk management or a related field such as quality assurance, audit, or compliance monitoring.
  • Proven project management skills, demonstrated through successful delivery of significant internal system or framework enhancements.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail, coupled with a proactive approach to challenge norms and drive impact in a dynamic, fast-paced team.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively across all stakeholder levels.
