Key Responsibilities

Now is an exciting time to join SYMCA as it grows to deliver a wider range of responsibilities. This includes the new Tram operating company (a wholly owned subsidiary), the Police and Crime Plan, the Investment Zone and Transport for City Regions (£1.45bn) funding for Transport investment including Bus Franchising over the next 6 years.

To support us on this journey we are seeking to appoint a Finance Business Partner to join our friendly and growing Finance Team. This role will report to the Senior Finance Manager responsible for supporting the delivery of SYMCA’s Capital Programme. This comes at a crucial point in the organisation’s evolution into a Mayoral Strategic Authority which will become one of only seven such entities to receive an Integrated Settlement from Central Government in 2026/27.

This is an exciting opportunity to have a real impact in enabling the organisation to deliver its objectives. The successful candidate will work closely with other Finance colleagues and internal/external stakeholders to deliver value from these activities to inform and improve performance.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will support the Senior Finance Manager to improve existing financial management processes and controls, strengthen governance and continually improve the quality of information used for decision making. This includes maximising available capital funding opportunities and ensuring expenditure is recorded and reported in line with requirements.

As you will work closely with numerous stakeholders you will need excellent communication, interpersonal and team working skills, along with the ability to manage and meet deadlines.
