The Development Manager at Certara is responsible for coaching and mentoring the software development team to deliver high-quality solutions that support the company’s mission to advance drug development. This role focuses on mentoring developers, fostering technical excellence, and ensuring alignment with best practices, while working closely with technical teams and scientists to enable successful outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor multiple teams of software developers, providing technical guidance, feedback, and support to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Manage developers’ career growth through tailored coaching, mentoring, and development plans to help them achieve their professional goals.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative development environment that encourages creativity and problem-solving.
  • Guide the team in implementing scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions using Microsoft Azure and other relevant technologies.
  • Ensure development practices align with coding standards, test automation strategies, and version control processes.
  • Collaborate with scientists and technical teams to understand requirements and support the delivery of effective software solutions.
  • Identify and address technical challenges, helping developers overcome obstacles and improve solution quality.
  • Promote continuous learning and improvement by introducing new tools, techniques, and industry best practices to the team.
  • Maintain documentation of team workflows, technical decisions, and coaching processes for transparency and consistency.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in the software development industry
  • Proven experience coaching or mentoring software development teams with a focus on technical growth and career development.
  • Strong technical background in software development, with proficiency in C# or C++.
  • Experience guiding the design and implementation of desktop or cloud-based applications.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and its application in development workflows.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and agile or waterfall development methodologies.
  • Experience with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, NUnit, or TestComplete.
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical or biotech industry and its technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and integration with development workflows.
  • Knowledge of software security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, microservices, or other integration-focused architectures.
  • Previous success in implementing team-focused process improvements or career development initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, developer-centric approach.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with developers, scientists, and technical teams.
  • Excellent coaching and interpersonal skills, with a passion for developing talent and guiding career progression.
