Controls & Automation Proposals Engineer – PLC / SCADA

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Controls & Automation Proposals Engineer to join a well-established systems integration and industrial automation business in theie Sheffiled office.

Working closely with the Senior Proposals Manager, you will be responsible for developing high-quality technical proposals across a diverse range of automation solutions, from PLC and SCADA systems through to full turnkey projects.

This is a varied, client-facing role combining technical expertise, commercial awareness, and strong communication skills, ideal for someone with an engineering background looking to move into a proposals or pre-sales position.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed technical proposals and tenders for:
  
  
  
  • PLC & SCADA systems
  
  
  • Control system upgrades and modifications
  
  
  • Digital and manufacturing information systems (MIS/MES)
  
  
  • Service level agreements and support contracts
  
  
  • Engineering resource / manpower solutions
  
  
  • Full turnkey automation projects
  
  
  
  


• Collaborate with sales teams and customers to fully understand requirements


• Define technical solutions and prepare accurate cost estimates


• Build and maintain quotation cost spreadsheets.


• Liaise with suppliers and internal engineering teams to obtain pricing and delivery timelines


• Ensure all proposals are accurate, compliant, and professionally presented


• Support internal approval processes with Project Managers and senior stakeholders


• Develop strong customer relationships and respond promptly to enquiries


• Maintain high standards of written documentation and technical clarity

Ideal Candidate

• Background in engineering, automation, or process control systems


• Knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and industrial automation solutions


• Experience within a systems integrator, engineering, or manufacturing environment


• Strong technical writing and communication skills


• High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in quotations and proposals


• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build lasting relationships

Desirable:

• Experience in proposals, estimating, pre-sales, or technical sales


• Knowledge of manufacturing execution systems (MES) or digital solutions
