Project Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Management to lead delivery across a complex engineering and research portfolio. You will manage the IHSS program and ensure alignment across IHSS, COMPASS, and HICOMS, maintaining delivery against agreed schedules, budgets, and stakeholder commitments. Reporting to the Program Lead for IHSS, you will oversee end-to-end project execution within a consortium environment, working closely with technical teams, partners, and UK Government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain integrated project plans covering schedules, milestones, resources, and deliverables
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting across the programme
- Identify, track, and mitigate risks, issues, and dependencies
- Support engineering and research teams in delivering technical milestones and stage/gate reviews
- Coordinate procurement activity with technical and commercial stakeholders
- Lead stakeholder engagement across consortium partners and internal teams
- Produce high-quality project reporting for senior leadership and UK Government stakeholders
- Facilitate governance meetings, reviews, and consortium coordination forums
- Ensure alignment across related programmes (including HICOMS)
- Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with governance standards
Accountabilities
- Delivery of project objectives within scope, time, and budget
- Accuracy and timeliness of reporting to UK Government and stakeholders
- Effective integration and coordination of consortium partners
- Compliance with organisational, contractual, and regulatory requirements
- Leadership of day-to-day project delivery activities
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering (strongly preferred), Science, Project Management, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Strong engineering or technical programme background is highly desirable
- Proven experience delivering UK Government–funded programmes, including ATI (Aerospace Technology Institute) projects (essential)
- Project management certification (PRINCE2 Practitioner / PMP preferred)
- 5+ years’ experience in R&D, engineering, or complex research programme management
- Strong experience managing budgets, risks, and multi-stakeholder delivery environments
- Excellent communication skills, including reporting to senior leadership and government stakeholders
- Experience working in portfolio or multi-project environments
Desirable
- Aerospace, defence, or advanced engineering sector experience
- Experience working with Innovate UK (IUK) or similar funding bodies
