Java Developers (Mid & Senior) – Contract

Sheffield | Hybrid | Long‑Term Contract | Global Financial Markets | £450+

A major global financial institution is looking for Mid‑Level and Senior Full Stack Engineers to join a high‑impact engineering function working on large‑scale, business‑critical platforms used across global markets. These roles are offered on a long‑term contract basis with strong potential for extension.

You’ll be part of a collaborative engineering group responsible for enhancing and maintaining complex Java‑based services that support regulatory, operational and data‑driven processes across multiple regions.

The Role

As a Full Stack Engineer, you will:

• Work within a global engineering team delivering enhancements to core backend and service‑based systems
• Take ownership of the full software development lifecycle for the changes you implement
• Deliver remediation and incremental fixes to tight deadlines
• Maintain and improve the codebase (defects, vulnerabilities, enhancements)
• Support operational teams through tooling, automation and improved capabilities
• Collaborate with upstream technology groups to improve data quality and reduce complexity
• Operate within a POD‑style delivery model with clear charters and objectives

What You’ll Bring

Mid‑Level: 3–5 years’ commercial Java experience

Senior: 5+ years’ commercial Java experience plus leadership in delivery

Both levels require:

• Strong Java engineering background
• Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with global stakeholders
• Strong problem‑solving ability and delivery focus
• Familiarity with DevOps and SRE concepts
• Experience with CI/CD and build pipelines

Nice to Have

• Kubernetes
• Environment, Change & Release Management
• Microservices architecture
• Cloud concepts (ideally GCP)
• GitHub/Jenkins, Jira, Confluence
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments
