Environmental Services Assistant

• Pay Rate: £13.69 per hour
• Location: Sheffield City Council, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S9
• Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (2 - 3 months)

Sheffield City Council are looking for a Environmental Services Assistant for a temporary full-time role lasting 2-3 months. The position involves responding to various environmental issues, including the clearance of illegally dumped waste and contaminated areas. This role is crucial in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the community.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Respond to environmental problems such as illegally dumped commercial and household garbage, filthy premises, and animal carcasses; undertake necessary clearance and cleaning.
• Complete basic written records and weekly timesheets, and follow written instructions.
• Carry out organised visits and revisits as instructed to maximise the efficiency of the section.
• Handle payments, including cash, following correct financial procedures.
• Assist in drainage investigations and remedial work, including the sealing of drains.
• Collect, load, and dispose of condemned foodstuffs as directed.
• Undertake clearance, cleaning, and disinfection of noxious, verminous, or contaminated articles and premises.
• Inspect and maintain equipment in line with existing procedures.
• Drive Council vehicles, carry out routine daily vehicle checks, and refuel as necessary.
• Perform depot work, including cleaning and disinfection as directed.
• Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with Council policies, focusing on efficient service provision, equal opportunities, health and safety, customer focus, and good employee relations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Ability to complete records and follow written instructions accurately.
• Experience in handling payments and understanding financial procedures.
• Competence in using and maintaining various equipment safely and effectively.
• Valid Standard DBS check.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.
• Strong commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations.
