Our client, a market-leading provider of manufacturing solutions for complex, high-precision products in the Medical Device and Aerospace & Defence sectors, is seeking a talented Applications Engineer to join their dynamic team in Sheffield.

Job Purpose:
The Applications Engineer plays a pivotal role in supporting new products and established processes throughout the full product lifecycle. From RFQ and DFM through to production prove-out and cost/rework reduction, this role requires flexibility and a commitment to delivering engineering objectives while ensuring operations are fully supported.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management:

Plan, lead, and execute multiple programmes while monitoring deliverables and reporting to management.

Collaborate with internal functions such as Programme Management, Quality, and Production, and interface with customers as needed.

Manufacturing Process Ownership:

Ensure jobs run effectively according to production plans and that work instructions are fit for purpose.

Proactively identify and investigate opportunities for improvement.

Daily Operations Representation:

Actively participate in daily operations meetings, providing valuable input and resolutions to open actions.

Quotations and Financial Estimations:

Prepare accurate quotations to support programme pro formas and manage manufacturing cost targets effectively.

Subject Matter Expertise:

Leverage extensive experience to drive best practises and collaborate with stakeholders to implement leading solutions.

Perform other related tasks as directed by management.

Qualification Requirements:

Educational/Training Requirement:

A degree in Engineering (Mechanical or equivalent) with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in a similar role. Candidates currently pursuing relevant qualifications will also be considered.

Experience:

  • Significant experience in manufacturing geometrically complex milled and turned components, particularly for orthopaedic and aerospace markets.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering engineering projects and utilising project tracking tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex workloads with shifting priorities.
  • Proficient in CAM systems (Hypermill / Mastercam / Vericut) and CNC programming, with experience in multi-axis CNC machines.
  • Familiarity with CAD software for designing tooling and fixturing, and generating in-process prints.
  • Basic knowledge of lean and industrial engineering principles, including process flow and equipment layout.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of conveying technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in ERP systems, able to create and maintain manufacturing documentation.

Working hours:

  • Core working hours are 09:00AM - 3:30PM, Monday - Thursday and 09:00AM - 2PM on a Friday.
