GXO is currently recruiting a QHSE Manager to join our M&S site in Thorncliffe. This is a senior, site-based leadership role within a large, automated distribution centre, where you’ll take full responsibility for all thing’s health and safety at site and help push our road to zero campaign. Reporting to the General Manager, with a dotted line into Regional EHS, you’ll lead the on-site QHSE and Facilities teams, working closely with GXO central functions and the customer to ensure legal compliance, continuous improvement and a strong safety-first culture.


This role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, working Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00 or 09:00 to 17:00, with flexibility required to support the operation – this is logistics after all.

What you’ll do on a typical day:


  • Lead, drive and continually improve the QSHE culture, champion the GXO philosophy in the management and communication of health, safety and environment to create a best-in-class safety culture
  • Drive a strong, visible safety culture where everyone takes ownership of safety and wellbeing
  • Develop, implement and maintain site safety policies, procedures and risk assessments
  • Lead incident reporting and investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions embedded
  • Chair safety committee meetings, manage site action plans and report performance to senior stakeholders
  • Develop and coach the on-site QHSE and Facilities teams, building capability and consistency
  • Monitor, analyse and report safety performance metrics, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
  • Coordinate audits, inspections, contractor safety and business continuity planning


What you need to succeed at GXO:


  • Proven experience leading QHSE activity within a warehouse, distribution or automated environment
  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety is essential
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation and audit requirements
  • Confident stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and customers
  • Experience managing and developing teams, with a collaborative leadership style
  • Strong analytical, reporting and presentation skills, with a track record of driving improvement
