Furnace Operator / Melting Operative

Reed Engineering & Manufacturing are delighted to be working in partnership with a leading engineering and manufacturing company who are looking to recruit a Furnace Operator / Manufacturing Operative to join their growing production team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable, safety-conscious individual with experience in industrial manufacturing environments, furnace operations, or heavy material handling processes. In return, the company offers a highly competitive salary, excellent benefits package, and a performance-related bonus of up to circa £4,300+ per year on top of your salary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the operation of industrial furnaces including melting processes
  • Prepare charges, mix materials, and load furnaces safely and efficiently
  • Carry out crucible, refractory, and mould preparation activities
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks for material movement
  • Load and unload heat treatment furnaces
  • Complete quality documentation and maintain accurate production records
  • Conduct furnace cleaning, routine maintenance, and housekeeping activities
  • Adhere to all health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across the production area

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience within a heavy manufacturing, foundry, metals, forging, heat treatment, or furnace environment
  • Experience operating or supporting melting, heat treatment furnaces, or similar industrial hot working processes
  • Overhead crane and/or forklift truck experience is advantageous
  • Strong commitment to health and safety
  • Ability to follow procedures and quality standards accurately
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Reliable, disciplined, and committed to maintaining high operational standards
