Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced English Teacher to join a specialist SEND school in Sheffield on a full-time maternity cover basis, starting immediately.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and resilient teacher who is confident teaching English Language at GCSE level and enjoys helping young people overcome barriers to learning.

There is also the potential for a TLR for the leadership of both Primary and Secondary English for the right candidate, making this an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher looking to take on additional responsibility and develop their leadership experience.



The Role

You will be teaching English across KS3 and KS4, supporting students to develop their literacy skills and working towards English Language GCSE.

The school supports students with a range of additional needs and barriers to learning, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • ADHD
  • Social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Additional learning needs and barriers to engagement

Experience of working within a specialist SEND, SEMH or alternative provision setting would be highly beneficial. The successful candidate will be someone who can build positive relationships with students, maintain clear boundaries and adapt their teaching to meet individual needs.

For the right candidate, there is the opportunity to take on leadership responsibility for English across both Primary and Secondary, with a TLR available.



The successful candidate will have:

  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level
  • Experience teaching KS3 and KS4 English
  • Experience teaching English Language GCSE
  • A strong understanding of the secondary English curriculum
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to adapt lessons to meet a range of individual needs
  • Experience working with students with SEND/SEMH would be advantageous
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach
  • A genuine commitment to helping students achieve their potential
  • For the leadership element, the ability to provide effective curriculum leadership across Primary and Secondary English
