Sheffield City Council are looking for three motivated and customer-focused Neighbourhood Officers to join its Matching & Allocations Team within the Rehousing & Homelessness Service.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable individuals and families by helping them access safe, suitable accommodation and sustain successful tenancies. You will play a key role in supporting the Council's commitment to reducing homelessness and eliminating the use of Bed & Breakfast accommodation wherever possible.

Working closely with colleagues across housing, homelessness and support services, you will manage a designated neighbourhood patch, support households with a wide range of needs, and ensure residents receive the guidance and assistance required to maintain stable and sustainable tenancies.

Day-to-day of the role

  • Work within the Matching & Allocations Team to match suitable temporary accommodation to households experiencing homelessness.
  • Assess housing and support needs and identify appropriate accommodation options.
  • Coordinate property allocations and tenancy sign-up processes.
  • Meet customers face-to-face to explain housing options, allocation decisions, tenancy conditions, rights and responsibilities.
  • Manage a dedicated patch of properties and households, delivering a tailored neighbourhood management service.
  • Develop positive relationships with tenants and actively support tenancy sustainment.
  • Conduct home visits and provide intensive support where required.
  • Deal with a range of complex and sensitive issues including:
    • Safeguarding concerns
    • Mental health issues
    • Substance and alcohol misuse
    • Parenting and family support
    • Financial and welfare concerns
  • Complete Housing+ Plans and undertake annual tenancy visits.
  • Signpost customers to relevant internal and external support services.
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies, support providers and Council services.
  • Maintain accurate case records, tenancy documentation and performance information.
  • Support customers to access services that enhance social inclusion and community involvement.
  • Effectively manage a varied caseload while meeting service targets and deadlines.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working within housing, homelessness, allocations, tenancy management, neighbourhood services, support work, or a similar customer-focused environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing complex cases and working with vulnerable individuals and families.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience carrying out face-to-face customer meetings and home visits.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to team objectives.
  • Strong IT and administration skills with experience maintaining accurate records and case notes.
  • A flexible, compassionate and solution-focused approach to supporting customers.
