Production Supervisor Engineer - PreCast - #2154503

JOB PURPOSE:

To support the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of daily precast concrete production activities, with a particular focus on pre-stressed concrete bearers. The Works Foreman/Engineer provides hands-on direction to production operatives, coordinates allocated work areas, monitors workmanship and housekeeping, and escalates issues to the Precast Manager. The role supports adherence to production schedules, quality standards, and health, safety, and environmental requirements while helping maintain consistent working practices across batching, casting, stressing, curing, demoulding, and finishing operations.


JOB RELATED STATISTICS:
 Ensure all work areas are safe, clean and that all are working to the required standards.

- Provides day-to-day guidance to production operatives within allocated work areas under the direction of the Precast Manager.

- Supports achievement of daily production targets by coordinating labour, materials, equipment, and work sequencing on the shop floor.

- Monitors workmanship, housekeeping, safe working practices, and progress against planned activities.

- Identifies and escalates safety, quality, production, maintenance, or resource concerns to the Precast Manager.

- Supports activities across concrete batching, casting, stressing, curing, demoulding, and finishing operations.

- Works closely with production operatives, team leaders, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, and HSE personnel as required.

- Manage all maintenance relating to the bearer operations, interact with the site maintenance team when needed.

- Manage all contractors permit to work activities that are specific to the bearer operations.

- Interact with external engineering companies and plan any engineered requirements relating to the bearer operations.

- Support and coordinate the installation of all new equipment and gain an understanding of its safe operation.

                                                                                                                                

JOB DUTIES:
Safety & Compliance
Promote safe working practices and ensure good housekeeping is maintained throughout allocated bearer production areas.

Support compliance with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.

Assist with toolbox talks, safety observations, risk assessments, and incident reporting as required.

Ensure operatives follow approved working methods and promptly escalate unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, or equipment concerns.

Repair any and all equipment if highlighted to be unsafe.

Production Management
Coordinate allocated daily production activities in line with instructions from the Precast Manager.

Allocate tasks to production operatives and monitor progress against the agreed work plan.

Support efficient use of labour, equipment, materials, moulds, and production resources.

Report delays, quality concerns, equipment issues, or material shortages to the Precast Manager.

Communicate with external suppliers and administration staff to ensure that significant materials are available to meet daily production weeks in advance.

Assist with the introduction of new equipment, processes, and standard working methods where required.

Quality Assurance
 Monitor production activities to help ensure products are manufactured in accordance with drawings, specifications, procedures, and quality standards.

Identify and report potential non-conformances or workmanship issues to the Precast Supervisor and Quality team.

Encourage right-first time working practices within the team.

Support accurate completion of relevant production and quality records.
Team Coordination
 Lead by example with on the job leadership.

Provide practical guidance and support to production operatives during daily activities.

Help organise work areas, shift handovers, and task priorities to maintain efficient workflow.

Support onboarding and on-the-job training of new or less experienced operatives.

Promote teamwork, accountability, and consistent standards of behaviour and performance.

Continuous Improvement
 Suggest and implement practical improvements to safety, productivity, quality, and housekeeping within allocated work areas.

Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement activities as directed.

Support the use and development of standard operating procedures and work instructions.

Help embed agreed best practices across day-to-day manufacturing operations.

Communication & Coordination
 Communicate production progress, issues, and priorities to the Precast Manager and relevant support functions.

Liaise with Quality, Maintenance, Site Engineering, Supply Chain, and HSE personnel to support effective operational delivery.

Contribute to shift handovers, production planning discussions, and operational reviews when required.

Operational Maintenance
 Ensure that all unplanned maintenance events are dealt with safely and promptly.

Ensure that the maintenance needs of the bearer operations are met and raise any concerns with the Precast Manager.

Coordinate and support with the onsite maintenance team any planned maintenance activities that relate to the precast concrete operations.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Essential

Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a production environment.

Experience working within a manufacturing, production, construction, or heavy industrial environment specifically related to prestressed concrete.

Experience providing practical direction, guidance, or coordination to small teams or work groups.

Ability to monitor work progress, identify issues, and escalate concerns appropriately.

Good communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to read and follow technical drawings, procedures, and manufacturing documentation.

Desirable

Experience within precast concrete manufacturing.

Experience producing pre-stressed concrete bearers, sleepers, or similar construction products.

Understanding of concrete batching, casting, stressing, curing, demoulding, and finishing processes.

Experience supporting Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement activities.

IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent Health and Safety awareness.

Manufacturing, Engineering, Construction, or Production-related qualification.
