Reed Engineering & Manufacturing are working with a leading Engineering & Metals business in Sheffield who are looking to recruit a Heat Treatment Operative to join their established team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join a specialist manufacturing environment, supporting the heat treatment process and ensuring materials are received, processed, identified and despatched accurately whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and traceability.

The Role

Reporting to the Heat Treatment Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the Heat Treatment Department. You will be responsible for the safe movement, identification and processing of customer materials, ensuring full traceability throughout the heat treatment cycle and supporting operational efficiency within the department.

The role offers full training on company procedures, materials handling equipment and safe systems of work.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and despatch materials, ensuring full traceability throughout the process.
• Accurately identify materials before and after heat treatment.
• Highlight and report any material discrepancies or anomalies to management.
• Prepare and dismantle furnace charges in line with heat treatment instructions and reports.
• Support straightening and Brinelling processes to meet customer specifications and delivery requirements.
• Maintain accurate records and follow departmental administration procedures.
• Ensure materials are handled safely and stored correctly.
• Operate forklift trucks and side loaders following training and company procedures.
• Work to production deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
• Support housekeeping activities within the department.
• Adhere to all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
• Promote safe working practices and encourage colleagues to do the same.

Skills & Experience Required

• Previous experience within manufacturing, engineering, production or materials handling environments.
• Forklift Truck or Side Loader experience would be advantageous, although training can be provided.
• Good attention to detail and ability to maintain material traceability.
• Strong understanding of safe working practices.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
• Good communication skills.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
