Paraplanner – Sheffield

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

Hybrid working available

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Paraplanner to join the Financial Planning division of a long-established and highly respected professional services firm in Sheffield.

This is particularly interesting for someone who wants to work with HNW clients, business owners and individuals with more complex financial circumstances, while joining a Financial Planning business with genuine plans for growth.

The wider organisation has an established presence across three UK offices and provides accountancy, tax, corporate finance and financial planning services.

The Financial Planning team currently has two Financial Advisers, but there are clear ambitions to grow. The immediate priority is to strengthen the foundations of the team by bringing in high-quality technical support before expanding the adviser population further.

For the right Paraplanner, that creates an opportunity to join at a particularly interesting stage of the journey.

The clients

The nature of the wider business means the Financial Planning team regularly works with successful business owners, entrepreneurs and individuals who have accumulated or realised significant wealth.

Many clients either currently own businesses or have recently sold them, creating opportunities to become involved in more interesting and technically challenging planning work.

Cases can therefore extend well beyond straightforward investment and pension advice, with Financial Planning sitting alongside expertise elsewhere within the organisation.

The role

Working closely with the Financial Advisers, you will provide high-quality technical Paraplanning support across a varied portfolio of clients.

The role will involve undertaking detailed research and analysis, preparing suitability reports and recommendations, supporting pension, investment and retirement planning cases, and using cashflow planning and modelling where appropriate.

You will review existing arrangements and research suitable solutions, working closely with the Advisers both ahead of and following client meetings. You will also ensure recommendations meet regulatory and internal standards and, where appropriate, work alongside specialists from elsewhere within the wider professional services business.

What they are looking for

Technical knowledge is important, but so is attitude.

The business is looking for someone driven, enthusiastic and keen to develop their expertise as the Financial Planning division grows.

You will ideally already have good experience within a Paraplanning environment and be comfortable dealing with detailed financial planning cases.

A Level 4 Financial Planning qualification would be highly desirable, alongside an interest in continuing to develop technically.

Most importantly, this should appeal to someone who wants to become a genuinely strong technical Financial Planning professional rather than simply producing reports.

Why consider it?

This is an opportunity to gain exposure to HNW clients, successful business owners and entrepreneurs, while becoming involved in more interesting and potentially complex Financial Planning work.

The professional services environment is another important attraction. You will be working within an established organisation with expertise across accountancy, tax and corporate finance, providing the opportunity to see how Financial Planning fits into a client's wider financial affairs.

There is also the longer-term opportunity. The Financial Planning division has genuine plans for growth, but the company wants to build the right foundations first. Joining while the team is still relatively small provides an opportunity to become an important part of that growth rather than joining once the structure is already established.

Hybrid working is available, there will be support for continued professional and technical development, and salary is negotiable depending on experience.

For a Paraplanner who feels they have reached a ceiling in their current environment, particularly in terms of the quality of clients or complexity of work they are exposed to, this could represent an excellent next step.
