Commercial Administrative Assistant | Sheffield | £26,500 | Permanent The Opportunity

If you're looking for an opportunity to develop your career within a busy commercial environment while gaining exposure to multiple areas of a growing engineering business, this role offers genuine variety and responsibility from day one.

Supporting a specialist manufacturing and service organisation, you'll work closely with sales, service, purchasing and operational teams, helping to ensure customer enquiries, quotations, work orders and key business processes are managed efficiently. The role sits at the centre of day-to-day business activity, providing visibility across several departments and regular interaction with both customers and internal stakeholders.

Joining a close-knit team, you'll take ownership of a wide range of administrative activities, supporting everything from customer quotations and commercial documentation through to service administration, purchasing support and general office coordination. This is not a siloed administration role; you'll be involved in the wider operation of the business and trusted to manage important tasks independently.

This position offers the opportunity to build broad commercial and operational experience within a supportive SME environment, making it ideally suited to someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in delivering a high standard of work and is looking to develop a long-term career within business support, commercial administration or customer-facing operations.

Commercial Administrative Assistant Responsibilities

Sales Administration: Support customer enquiries, prepare and issue quotations, follow up on outstanding quotations and maintain accurate CRM records.

Purchasing Support: Raise purchase orders and provide administrative support to purchasing and production activities where required.

Customer & Stakeholder Communication: Liaise professionally with customers, suppliers and internal departments to ensure enquiries, requests and actions are managed effectively.

General Administration: Support day-to-day office activities including inbound telephone calls, visitor reception, calendar management and wider business administration.

Process Ownership: Take responsibility for assigned administrative activities, ensuring tasks are completed accurately, on time and to a high standard.

Ideal Commercial Administrative Assistant

Commercial Administration Experience: Previous experience within an administrative, customer service, sales support or commercial support environment.

CRM / ERP Systems Experience: Experience using business systems to manage enquiries, customer records, work orders or operational activity.

Commercial Documentation Experience: Experience preparing, processing or maintaining quotations, purchase orders, work orders or related business documentation.

Multi-Tasking & Prioritisation: Comfortable managing multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Strong Communicator: Able to communicate confidently and professionally with customers, suppliers and colleagues.

Organised & Detail-Oriented: Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and manage competing deadlines.

Proactive Approach: Takes ownership of tasks, follows actions through to completion and works independently when required.

Team Player: Enjoys working collaboratively across multiple departments and contributing to wider business objectives.

Industry Experience: Experience within engineering, manufacturing, service, logistics, construction or other operational environments would be advantageous but is not essential.
