Using your systems engineering expertise, you’ll develop robust solutions, take ownership of key technical decisions and help drive projects through to successful delivery.

Working alongside software, hardware, workshop and project management teams, you’ll provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle and support the development of junior engineers. The role combines hands-on systems integration and problem-solving with technical leadership, client engagement and a focus on delivering safe, reliable and high-quality solutions.

The role is available in Sheffield, Glasgow, Stafford or Cumbria, offering the chance to contribute to challenging control systems projects while continuing to develop your technical leadership.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop system architectures, designs and detailed technical specifications to meet client requirements.

Translate client needs into clear functional and non-functional requirements, working independently or as part of a wider team.

Integrate subsystems and components, ensuring compatibility, reliability and overall system performance.

Plan and carry out system testing and validation to confirm that solutions meet design specifications and performance criteria.

Support and lead commissioning activities at client sites, including testing, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.

Prepare, maintain and review technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, test plans, operator manuals and quality records.

Select appropriate components and define procurement requirements where needed.

Lead technical discussions, conduct peer reviews and make sound technical decisions throughout project delivery.

Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Work closely with software, hardware, workshop and project management colleagues to deliver projects successfully.

Communicate with clients to understand requirements, manage expectations and support customer satisfaction.

Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation while following applicable health and safety requirements, quality systems and project procedures.

Maintain an understanding of relevant client-specific and international standards, and complete required training.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

At least five years’ experience in systems engineering.

In-depth knowledge of relevant software packages, such as SCADA, PLC and HMI systems.

Experience applying systems engineering principles and methodologies.

Practical experience with system integration processes, tools and technologies.

Experience integrating software into wider systems.

Experience working at client sites, including supporting commissioning and troubleshooting.

Understanding of quality management systems, technical processes and procedures.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and engage with clients.

Ability to take ownership of technical work, review the work of peers and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.

WHAT’S ON OFFER

You’ll join a technically focused environment where experienced engineers work together to solve complex, real-world challenges. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to varied control systems projects, take ownership of technical decisions and support the development of engineering colleagues.
