Software Engineer | Long Term Contract | New Project Build - #2179182

Software Engineer – Developer Relations / Developer Platform

Sheffield | Hybrid | Inside IR35 Contract | Long Term Project

We’re looking for a hands-on Software Engineer to join a new Developer Relations team, working on an internal developer platform designed to simplify how engineering teams build, deploy and manage applications across the bank.

This isn’t a traditional role where you’ll simply pick up pre-written tickets. You’ll work directly with internal developers to understand where they’re experiencing friction, identify problems, design solutions and then build the tools, services and experiences that make their lives easier. You could be improving developer onboarding, simplifying deployment journeys, building new internal tooling, improving UIs or helping engineering teams adopt the platform more effectively.

What we’re looking for:

• Strong hands-on software engineering and system-design ability.
• Ideally strong Java/Kotlin backend experience or Node.js/React front-end experience.
• Comfortable picking up unfamiliar technologies rather than being tied to one stack.
• Someone who enjoys solving loosely defined problems and can work independently from problem through to solution.
• Strong communication skills and an interest in working directly with developers/users.
• A genuine product mindset. You notice when a developer experience is poor and want to improve it.
• Curious, proactive and comfortable challenging existing ways of doing things.

Experience with AWS, GCP, PostgreSQL, messaging, developer platforms or internal tooling would be beneficial, but these are not strict requirements.

This would suit an engineer who wants more ownership than a conventional delivery role and enjoys the combination of software engineering, problem solving and developer experience.
