We are looking for a creative, pragmatic, and organised person who enjoys working with people in the community and who will play a key role in our community speech and language therapy team.



This post provides speech and language therapy as part of the multidisciplinary Active Recovery Team who see patients in their own homes, who have just been discharged from hospital or where admission avoidance is a key goal. The post is also part of the SLT Adult Community Team which focuses on providing an SLT service to people living in care homes and in their own homes. Our clients have swallowing and/or communication difficulties, usually presenting with multi-pathology. Working with, and via carers is an integral part of the management approach. There are strong links with the hospital SLT service and other community services.



You will have extensive experience of working in the primary and community settings and in particular working effectively with other AHPs, nursing and care staff roles to provide the best patient centred care.



There is a strong clinical support network in Sheffield. All therapists have regular clinical supervision. There are monthly clinical meetings and access to clinical lead specialists including AAC, Older Adults, Voice and Dysphagia.





  • To provide highly specialist Speech and Language assessment, therapy and support to a highly complex caseload of adults referred to the Adult Community Team and Active Recovery Teams.

  • To provide highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy input as part of a team.

  • The post holder will specialise in the management of patients with highly complex dysphagia and communication impairments.

The SLT service across both the acute and community teams in STH has approximately 60 staff (49 therapists, 7 assistants and 4 secretarial staff).



The SLT teams are highly motivated to provide a quality service to their patients, they are research active and embrace innovation. The service has established processes for supervision and supports personal and professional development.
