The Venue

Sheffield City Hall, a stunning Art Deco venue, has been a cultural landmark since its opening in 1932. Boasting three performance spaces, including the magnificent 2,271-seat Oval Hall, this historic venue hosts diverse events—from live music and comedy to conferences and community gatherings. Sheffield City Hall is at the heart of the city's vibrant entertainment scene with a rich history of performances by artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, and contemporary stars. Recognised as one of the busiest venues in the UK with three independent event spaces this is a great opportunity to make your mark in history.

About the Role

As our Technical Manager, you will be the driving force of our operational delivery and preparation of the venue. You will be the point of contact for all technical advancing, working alongside the event coordinators to ensure all clients’ needs are met and discussed in advance of their arrival.

It will be your mission to ensure we set an outstanding quality and safety culture, continually driving the team, venue, and your development to ensure we are seen as an outstanding provider.

A big part of your role will be to lead the health, safety and sustainability management for the technical / operations department, liaising directly with facilities services to ensure the venue is maintained and operational to expected requirements.

We are looking for a commercially driven manager, acutely aware of the need to drive revenue and manage costs while offering best in class service you will constantly review operations to ensure we are efficient and effective in everything we do, working closely with other departments to constantly improve the venues overall performance and ensuring our clients feel appreciated and are receiving great value.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor the Sheffield City Hall Technical Operational Team to ensure an outstanding level of service is delivered to all stakeholders. This includes cost effective rotas, performance monitoring and personal development.
  • Work with the Sheffield City Hall Head of Operations to provide advice and support, where necessary, with liaison with the Maintenance Hub Manager, Onsite Maintenance Technician and external maintenance contractors, to ensure all routine and statutory maintenance is carried out in the most effective and efficient means necessary.
  • Project manage event changeovers to ensure all event spaces are ready and that the venue is prepared for prospective clients to view at all times.
  • To work with other relevant venue and corporate teams on sustainable practices to aspire and to adhere to the LIVE Green sustainability charter
  • As a visible and inspiring leader, you will be part of the Duty Manager and Executive on Duty rota championing and supporting our teams to be the best in class.
  • We are looking for someone with:

    • Operations & Event management experience of working a large scale, multi-use entertainment or events venue – Essential
    • Strong working knowledge of the events industry – essential
    • Strong working knowledge of advancing and project managing events - essential
    • Working knowledge of sound and lighting and AV systems, with a high level of operating knowledge in at least two of these areas. Experience of ETEC, EOS family console – Advantageous
    • Understanding of health and safety, risk assessment and method statements issues for events staff including LOLER and PUWER
    • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of maintenance and facilities-based skills and trades
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse range of colleagues, stakeholders and partners.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple workstreams
