Design Engineer (Remote)

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a good technical background and demonstrable experience in taking the responsibility for producing foundations or geotechnical based designs from within the power T&D sector, including OHL or steel pylons and towers. Occasional midlands office presence is required, with working from home/remote working available.

Due to continued expansion and an abundant pipeline of works, our client is now looking to appoint a Design Engineer who will take the responsibility for supporting the design aspects of the company’s full suite of techniques and disciplines, specifically for their power T&D division, covering projects within the high voltage (HV), extra high voltage (EHV), overhead line (OHL) steel lattice towers and steel pylons, all carrying overhead power lines and cables.

The successful candidate must be able to review enquiry documentation to determine the key considerations associated with proposed projects. Our client seeks a high calibre professional with enthusiasm and drive to make an impact. You must have strong technical acumen coupled with a general passion for ground engineering. You will also have a professional approach and a keen eye for detail, along with excellent communication and IT skills.

The Person

  • Experience of undertaking pile and foundations designs using appropriate software packages
  • Experience of designing piling works covering a wide range of techniques, disciplines, values, sectors and complexities
  • Ability to work in isolation sometimes and to communicate complex technical matters simply and clearly both in writing and verbally
  • Enthusiasm and results focussed, with an ability to work well under pressure and to challenging or stringent deadlines
  • Effective negotiation skills with both internal and external clients and teams

The Role

  • To understand and deliver the client's requirements and liaise with other designers, clients and main contractors to optimize the best engineering solution.
  • Ensure the appropriate selection of piling and foundation technique is chosen to suit ground conditions.
  • To undertake geotechnical analysis using in-house and commercially available software in accordance with the relevant codes of practice and prepare reports for submittal to clients and respond to technical queries raised during the approval process.
  • Preparation of settlement packs for review by the business at meetings.
  • Preparation of contract design documents, drawings and schedules.
  • Awareness of risk including H&S, geotechnical and commercial aspects.
  • To liaise and provide support to the operation team during the installation phase
  • To produce as built documentation post construction.
  • Develop long lasting relationships with clients to encourage repeat business.
  • Co-ordinating and responding to client's requests by gaining experience from colleagues.
  • Collaborative working with other group business units to achieve shared end goals.

Our Client

Our client is a market leading foundations, piling, retaining structures and ground engineering contractor. Their service offering includes restricted access and open sites and covers all disciplines and techniques for a wide variety of clients and project applications. They not only complete projects successfully and to the highest of standards at all times but also add value to their clients by giving them total support from the beginning to the end of each and every contract.

A highly attractive basic salary (commensurate with experience) plus extensive benefits package is on offer to the successful candidate, along with longevity and security of work and forward career progression given that our client possesses a significant contract pipeline for the long-term future and is firmly committed to continued growth over the next 5-10 years.
