Please note that SYMCA follows a structured salary grading system for all roles, and the offered salary for each post will be at the starting point within the specified grade. Key Responsibilities

As Programme Manager you will be responsible for ensuring the organisation has a robust, high quality and consistent approach to programme management and delivery across the Mayoral Combined Authority.

You will lead on the oversight of performance of our corporate priority projects providing support, check and challenge, trouble-shooting issues and providing regular reports to the Executive Leadership Board and Mayor working in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities Include

  • Leading the programme oversight of organisational priorities and key corporate change programmes.
  • Proactively support, seek out and lead the development and delivery of complex and strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Identifying and defining an ambitious work programme to embed and deliver the six principles that underpin the work of the organisation, monitoring performance.
  • Working closely with the organisation’s leads on corporate performance and governance to identify emerging corporate priorities and with colleagues develop action plans to deliver improvement.
  • Maintaining oversight of the development of corporate policies, strategies and action plans, report on progress on their development, identify and resolve delivery challenges.
  • Managing the development of an appropriate proportionate programme management framework to enable the Executive Leadership Team and Chief Executive to track progress on both ongoing corporate priorities and new incoming activities.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You’ll have previous experience of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously through strong organisational and project management skills; with proven experience of working with senior executive leadership in a complex organisation including presenting professional advice and guidance in the form of reports, dashboards and briefs to a variety of audiences.

We’d love to hear from candidates with the following:

  • Degree, or equivalent professional attainment in a relevant subject
  • Good knowledge of a Combined Authority’s partnership, stakeholder, and political landscape.
  • Experience of establishing business systems, processes and procedures to increase efficiency.
  • Logical and analytical reasoning plus persistence to support problem solving.
  • High professional standards with the ability to work on own initiative and perform duties with a high degree of tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to forge partnerships and establish relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • Highly flexible, adaptable, and resilient to meet and embrace changing circumstances and demands and in personal style.
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to persuade, influence and advocate.
