Assistant Accountant - #2129771

A modern, cloud focused accountancy practice in Sheffield is looking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to its growing team. The firm has a very flexible approach to how and where people work, with a relaxed but professional culture and a strong focus on using technology to provide an efficient service to clients.

You will join an established accounts team and take responsibility for a varied portfolio, including a significant client operating within the property and construction sector. This role requires someone who is comfortable managing work from start to finish and dealing directly with clients. Previous CIS experience is essential, alongside a good working knowledge of Xero.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day to day accounting requirements for a portfolio of clients
• Take ownership of work from initial records through to completion
• Prepare year end accounts for a range of owner managed businesses
• Prepare and submit VAT returns
• Handle CIS accounting and compliance requirements
• Work extensively with Xero and other cloud accounting systems
• Respond to client queries and maintain regular client contact
• Build a strong working relationship with a key property and construction client
• Assist with client payroll requirements, with training available where required
• Work closely with bookkeeping and accounts colleagues across the wider team

Candidate Profile

• Previous experience within an accountancy practice or a relevant construction or property finance environment
• Practical CIS experience is essential
• Confident user of Xero
• AAT qualified or studying towards completion would be well suited, although experience will also be considered
• Experience preparing VAT returns and year end accounts
• Comfortable dealing directly with clients and handling routine queries independently
• Able to manage workload effectively when working remotely
• Payroll experience would be useful but is not essential as training can be provided

Package and Working Pattern

• £30,000 to £33,000+, dependent on experience
• Profit share bonus scheme with strong historic payouts
• Very flexible hybrid working with the option to divide time between home and the Sheffield office
• No fixed requirement for particular office days, with the team typically meeting in person around two to three days per week
