We are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Manager to join an established trade and commercial waste management company based in Sheffield.

This is a hands-on transport management role, ideal for someone who understands the demands of waste collection operations, can effectively plan and optimise daily routes, and has experience managing drivers and a busy commercial fleet.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for ensuring the transport operation runs safely, efficiently and cost-effectively, while maintaining high levels of customer service and operational performance.

The Role

As Transport Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day transport operation, coordinating drivers, vehicles and collection schedules to ensure customers are serviced efficiently and on time.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the day-to-day transport and collection operation.
• Planning and optimising daily routes for trade and commercial waste collections.
• Managing and supporting a team of drivers, ensuring standards of performance, conduct and compliance are maintained.
• Allocating vehicles and drivers to daily collection requirements.
• Monitoring collections and responding to operational issues throughout the day.
• Working closely with the operations and customer service teams to resolve service issues.
• Monitoring driver hours, vehicle checks, defects and other transport compliance requirements.
• Carrying out driver briefings, toolbox talks and performance reviews where required.
• Monitoring transport KPIs, identifying areas for improvement and implementing more efficient working practices.

About You

We are looking for an experienced transport professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced waste collection environment.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in a Transport Manager, Transport Supervisor or similar transport management position.
• Experience within the waste management, recycling, haulage or environmental services sector.
• Strong experience of route planning for waste collection services.
• Previous experience managing and motivating a team of drivers.
• Good knowledge of transport compliance and driver legislation.
• A Transport Manager CPC / CPC qualification would be highly desirable.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a busy operational environment.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to deal with drivers, customers and colleagues at all levels.
• A hands-on approach and the ability to take ownership of the transport operation.
