Furnace Operator / Melting Operative

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Furnace Operator to join our specialist melting team. Working with advanced melting and remelting technologies, you will play a key role in the production of high-integrity alloys used in demanding aerospace, defence, energy and industrial applications.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in heavy manufacturing, steel production, foundry, forging, melting, casting, or similar industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate and support the operation of the specific furnaces used within the melt
• Carry out the safe overhead crane handling of electrodes, moulds, ingots and furnace crucibles.
• Prepare and load furnace charges in line with production specifications.
• Undertake charge preparation, charge mixing and furnace loading activities.
• Prepare crucibles and refractory materials for production campaigns.
• Assist with mould preparation, setting, stripping and associated processes.
• Load and unload large clamshell heat treatment furnaces.
• Complete general crane and forklift truck operations within the production facility.
• Conduct routine furnace cleaning activities.
• Maintain accurate production and quality documentation, including melt records.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with quality assurance procedures and customer requirements.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping standards and contribute to site safety initiatives.
• Work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve production targets while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience within steel manufacturing, foundry, melting, casting, forging, heat treatment or heavy engineering environments.
• Experience operating overhead cranes and FLTs is advantageous.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and quality procedures.
• Ability to work effectively within a team-based manufacturing environment.
• Flexible approach to work and willingness to undertake training on specialist equipment.
• Good attention to detail and record-keeping skills.

PLEASE NOTE THE ROLE ALSO INVOLVES A BONUS OF UP TO £6,598 OTE UP TO £50,586
