Environmental Service Assistant

• Location: Sheffield
• Salary: £17.70 per hour via umbrella
• Job Type: Full-time (Mon-Fri, 8am-4pm), Contract (Until beginning of Feb)

We are seeking an Environmental Service Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis. This role involves assisting in drainage investigations, responding to environmental problems, and maintaining equipment and vehicles. The successful candidate will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the upkeep and safety of the community.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Assist in drainage investigations and carry out remedial work, including the sealing of drains.
• Respond to environmental issues such as illegally dumped commercial waste, household garbage, and animal carcasses, undertaking clearance as directed.
• Collect, load, and dispose of condemned foodstuffs and undertake clearance, cleaning, and disinfection of contaminated articles and premises.
• Complete records and job cards to a satisfactory standard.
• Inspect and maintain equipment according to existing procedures.
• Drive Council vehicles, perform routine vehicle checks, and carry out refuelling as per procedures.
• Undertake depot work, including cleaning and disinfection.
• Handle payments, including cash, adhering to financial procedures.
• Carry out organised visits and revisits to maximise the efficiency of the section.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Experience in handling environmental and maintenance tasks.
• Competency in driving and maintaining vehicles.
• Good record-keeping skills.
• Ability to handle payments and understand financial procedures.
• Commitment to adhering to health and safety, equalities, diversity and inclusion, and safeguarding procedures.
