Job Description:

Key responsibilities

• Translate the Database Platform strategy into prioritised roadmaps, milestones, funding requirements and measurable outcomes.
• Coordinate delivery across engineering, architecture, product, risk, operations and business stakeholders.
• Track progress across strategic initiatives, managing dependencies, risks, decisions and escalations.
• Prepare concise recommendations, updates and decision papers for senior leadership and governance forums.
• Support delivery of the on-premises DBaaS roadmap, including services based on MongoDB and SQL Server.
• Apply DBaaS operating, consumption and control models to new distributed SQL products.
• Help shape the architecture, product model and industrialised consumption of distributed SQL services.
• Define capability plans across platform engineering, product management, architecture, automation, reliability and service operations.
• Promote consistent engineering standards for newly onboarded database products, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD/CT pipelines, Automated testing, Secure engineering, SDLC and deployment controls, Reliability, recoverability and service management
• Identify technical and organisational gaps and coordinate practical solutions across the function.

Experience and qualifications

• Experience leading technology strategy execution, platform delivery or transformation at scale.
• Experience working as a strategic adviser, execution lead or chief-of-staff-style partner to a senior technology leader.
• Experience with databases systems, one or many of the following: Oracle, Mongodb, Postgres, MS SQL Server.
• Experience delivering or operating database platforms through DBaaS, IaaS or similar shared-service models.
• Working knowledge of relational, NoSQL and distributed SQL technologies.
• Understanding of database performance, capacity, availability, resilience, recoverability and security.
• Experience coordinating engineering, architecture, product, risk and operations teams.
• Practical understanding of platform engineering, automation, DevOps, SRE, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code.
• Ability to assess technical options, identify delivery risks and present clear recommendations.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable

• Experience with distributed SQL.
• Experience with microservices, API development and application systems design.
• Experience establishing or maturing technology capabilities, operating models or platform services.
• Typically, 10 or more years of relevant experience, including senior technology or transformation responsibilities.
