Engineering Project Manager

A leading aerospace and defence organisation is seeking an experienced Project Management Specialist to lead the delivery of a complex, government-funded R&D programme. Working across industry, government and technical stakeholders, you'll be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to agreed objectives.
The Role
You'll take ownership of project planning, delivery, governance and reporting, coordinating technical teams and consortium partners to ensure milestones, deliverables and programme commitments are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, milestones and resources
- Control project budgets, forecasts and financial performance
- Identify and mitigate project risks and issues
- Support engineering teams in achieving technical deliverables and programme gates
- Coordinate procurement and supplier activities
- Lead project meetings, governance reviews and stakeholder engagement
- Manage reporting requirements for senior leadership and government stakeholders
- Maintain project documentation, progress reporting and change control
- Coordinate activities across multiple related projects to ensure alignment and successful delivery
- Escalate key risks and issues where required
What We're Looking For
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Science, Project Management or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years' project management experience within engineering, technology, R&D or research environments
- Experience managing government-funded programmes and reporting to funding bodies or government stakeholders
- Strong planning, budgeting, risk management and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively with technical teams and senior leadership
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Experience
- PRINCE2 Practitioner, PMP or equivalent certification
- Aerospace, defence or advanced technology sector experience
- Experience managing collaborative R&D programmes involving multiple partners
- Experience working with UK Government organisations or innovation funding bodies
- Security clearance or eligibility to obtain clearance
