Senior Design Engineer - #2110723

Elevation Recruitment Group are working with a well-established engineering and manufacturing business to recruit a Senior Design Engineer / Development Lead.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a global engineering organisation that designs and manufactures bespoke capital equipment for the metals and heavy engineering sectors. The role offers the chance to lead the development of innovative mechanical products, taking projects from initial concept through detailed design, prototype build, testing and final commissioning.

You'll provide technical leadership to a small team of engineers while remaining hands-on with design, working closely with manufacturing, projects and customers to deliver high-quality engineered solutions.

• Lead the design and development of complex mechanical equipment from concept through to manufacture and site commissioning.
• Produce and review 3D CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings and engineering documentation.
• Manage the technical delivery of projects, ensuring designs are delivered on time, to specification and within budget.
• Mentor and support a small team of Design Engineers, providing technical guidance and driving engineering best practice.
• Carry out engineering calculations, tolerance analysis and Design for Manufacture (DFM) reviews.
• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation.
• Manage engineering change control and design release activities.
• Work closely with manufacturing, projects, procurement and suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
• Support prototype builds, product development, testing and continuous design improvements.

To be successful in this role, you'll have a strong background in mechanical design engineering within heavy engineering, capital equipment, special purpose machinery or a related manufacturing environment.

You'll ideally have:

• Significant experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Strong 3D CAD skills (Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor or similar).
• Experience designing complex mechanical assemblies and manufactured components.
• Knowledge of engineering calculations, GD&T, tolerancing and engineering documentation.
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring or supervising engineers.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work across design, manufacturing and project teams.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Exposure to automation, mechatronics or machine control systems would be advantageous but is not essential.
